In the US market, sales of BMW Motorrad USA recorded 2.2% (13,842 units) compared to 2017 and this success was attributed to the appearance of the BMW K1600 Grand America Touring model. GS continues to be BMW’s most popular model with 51,000 units sold in 2018. The company also set a new sales record for the R-series when it reached sales of 84,500 units last year. .
According to BMW, R nineT and the main variants are cars that bring this level of sales like this. Launching K1600 Grand America to the market helped boost sales of the K-series by 25% with 8,306 units delivered to customers. Touring is a very popular car in the US market and in the future, BMW certainly plans to hit more strongly in this business.
For sport bike, BMW said last year they sold a total of 18,773 S1000RR, S1000R and S1000XR worldwide. In addition, the 2018 financial statement also shows that BMW Motorrad’s largest market continues to be in Europe. Germany topped the list with sales of 23,824 units, followed by France with 16,615 units, in Italy sold 14,110 units and finally Spain with sales of 11,124 units.
China is the market with the strongest growth with sales of 7,561 units, up 35%. Bringing in many similarities, India is also a market with strong growth with sales of 2,187 units last year. With the introduction of the all-new S1000RR with many modern technologies and innovative designs, BMW expects sales will continue to grow in 2019 and by 2020 the target will be 200,000 units.
